Tutorial: Create a Brand Style Guide

Build a simple brand style guide in Mito using images and text: colors, typography examples, and logo variations.

What you'll build

  • A style board with sections for Colors, Typography, and Logos
  • Labels and notes describing usage

Prerequisites

  • Canvas quickstart (/canvas/quickstart)
  • Brand assets: logo files, a PDF with guidelines (optional), and example images or swatch images/links

Part 1: Create the board

  1. Create a new project and open the canvas.
  2. Add a page title with Add Text (e.g., “Acme Brand Guide”).

✅ Checkpoint

The canvas has a clear title.

Part 2: Colors

  1. If you have swatch images, drag them onto the canvas. Otherwise, capture small color tiles from your design tool and import them as images.
  2. Arrange swatches in a row; add a text label below each with the color name/hex (e.g., “Primary — #2255FF”).
  3. Group the entire color row.

Tip: Use alignment and distribute tools to keep spacing consistent (/canvas/guides/organization/alignment-tools).

Part 3: Typography

  1. Add a Text node titled “Typography”.
  2. Add sample text blocks for headings and body copy (e.g., “Heading ABC xyz 123”, “Body ABC xyz 123”).
  3. Use headings and emphasis in the text toolbar to differentiate hierarchy.

Part 4: Logos

  1. Import logo variations (full logo, mark only, monochrome) as image assets.
  2. Place them side-by-side; add labels indicating usage (e.g., “Light backgrounds only”).
  3. Group the logo row.

Part 5: Guidelines (optional)

  1. Add a Text node with usage notes (e.g., “Maintain 24px padding around the logo”).
  2. If you have a brand PDF, add it as a Document reference for deeper details.

✅ Checkpoint

Colors, typography, logos, and guidelines are laid out and legible.

🎉 Congratulations!

You assembled a simple, readable brand guide in Mito.

Next steps

  • Present the board to stakeholders (/use-cases/design-presentation)
  • Add more sections (Photography, Illustration) as needed
  • Organize the project for long-term reference (/projects/guides/organizing-projects)
