Credits power Mito's AI features like image, video, and audio generation. Understanding how credits work and which plan fits your needs helps you get the most out of Mito.
How credits work
Credits are consumed when you:
- Generate images with Mito Director
- Create videos from scenes
- Generate audio for scenes
- Use advanced AI features
Credits are shared across your workspace — team members draw from the same credit pool.
Credit costs by feature
Different AI features use credits at different rates:

Credit types

FREE plan credit limitations
FREE plan users cannot purchase credit top-ups. If you run low on credits, you'll see an upgrade prompt when trying to buy more.
What you see on FREE plan
When you click "Buy Credits" on the FREE plan:
- Crown icon with "Unlock Credit Top-ups" message
- Benefits list showing what paid plans include
- "Compare Plans & Upgrade" button to view plan options
Why upgrade?
Paid plans unlock:
- On-demand credit top-ups — Buy credits when you need them
- Higher monthly allowance — More credits included each month
- Credit rollover — Unused credits carry forward

If you're on a paid plan and need more credits:
- Go to Plans & Billing in your workspace
- Click Buy Credits
- Choose your credit pack size
- Complete purchase through secure checkout
- Credits are added immediately to your workspace

- Expire in 90 days from purchase date
- Add to existing balance — stack with plan credits
- Used after plan credits — plan allowance is used first
- Shared across workspace — available to all team members
- Non-refundable once purchased

In any workspace, click Plans & Billing in the sidebar.

Select the plan that matches your usage and team size.

Complete upgrade
Update payment method if needed and confirm your choice.
Your new plan takes effect immediately with the higher credit allowance and new features.
Which plan is right for you?
Consider upgrading if you:
- Run out of credits regularly on FREE plan
- Work with a team that shares the same workspace
- Need flexibility to buy credits during high-usage periods
- Want credit rollover to carry unused credits forward
Monitoring your usage
Keep track of your credits to avoid running out mid-project:
- Usage page — See current balance and recent usage
- Billing page — View plan allowance and purchase history
- Project dashboard — Check remaining credits before starting work
Pro tip: Credits are consumed when generation completes, not when you start the process.
Planning your credit usage
Audio generation costs
Audio generation uses 8 credits per second:
- 5-second voiceover = 40 credits
- 15-second narration = 120 credits
- 30-second background audio = 240 credits
Budget management tips
Preview costs first:
- Check credit requirements before generating
- Adjust duration to fit your budget
- Generate shorter samples for testing
Prioritize your content:
- Generate audio for your most important scenes first
- Use shorter durations while experimenting
- Save longer generations for final versions
Troubleshooting credit issues
"Upgrade to unlock credit top-ups"
Cause: You're on the FREE plan, which doesn't support credit purchases.
Solution: Click "Compare Plans & Upgrade" to explore paid plans with credit top-up access.
Credits not appearing after purchase
Cause: There may be a processing delay.
Solutions:
- Refresh your billing page
- Check your email for purchase confirmation
- Wait a few minutes for the system to update
- Contact support if credits don't appear within 10 minutes
Can't access billing page
Cause: You may not have billing permissions in this workspace.
Solution: Ask your workspace owner to give you billing manager permissions or upgrade the plan themselves.
Insufficient credits warning
When you see this warning before generating content:
Immediate solutions:
- Purchase more credits (paid plans only)
- Upgrade to a higher plan
- Reduce content duration to lower cost
- Use remaining credits for shorter content
Understanding workspace credits
Credits belong to workspaces, not individual users:
- Personal workspace — Credits you add benefit only your projects
- Team workspace — Credits are shared among all members
- Multiple workspaces — Each workspace has separate credits and billing
Moving between workspaces? Make sure you're in the right workspace before purchasing credits or checking your balance.
