Tutorial: Create a Storyboard

Create a storyboard to plan your video shot by shot, add narratives and visual references, and generate AI video takes.

What you'll build

  • A complete storyboard with multiple scenes
  • Narratives and visual references for each scene
  • AI-generated video takes

Prerequisites

  • A Mito account
  • A script or story idea (optional—you can also start from scratch)

Part 1: Set up your project

  1. From the Projects dashboard, click New Project
  2. Add any reference images to your canvas (optional)
  3. Switch to Storyboard mode using the mode selector

Checkpoint

You're in Storyboard mode with an empty storyboard.

Part 2: Create scenes

You have two options:

If you have a script:

  1. Add your script text to the canvas first
  2. In Storyboard mode, drag your script onto the Mito Director area
  3. Director analyzes your script and creates scenes automatically
  4. Review the generated scenes

Option B: Start from scratch

  1. Click Start from Scratch
  2. Three blank scenes are created
  3. Click Add Scene to add more

Checkpoint

You have scenes in your storyboard.

Part 3: Add scene details

For each scene:

  1. Click the Duration field and set how long the shot should be
  2. Click the Narrative field and describe what happens
  3. Drag reference images into the Visual Description area

Tips for good narratives

  • Describe the action clearly
  • Include mood and atmosphere
  • Mention camera movement if relevant

Checkpoint

Your scenes have durations, narratives, and visual references.

Part 4: Generate video takes

  1. Click on a scene to open the generation drawer
  2. Write a prompt describing the video you want
  3. Select an AI model and duration
  4. Click Generate
  5. Wait for the video to complete
  6. Generate multiple takes to explore different directions

Tips for better results

  • Be specific in your prompts
  • Reference your visual descriptions
  • Try different models for different styles

Checkpoint

You have video takes for your scenes.

Part 5: Review and organize

  1. Use the timeline at the bottom to see your full sequence
  2. Drag scenes to reorder them
  3. Click Play to preview all scenes in order
  4. Download takes you want to keep

Congratulations!

You created a complete storyboard with AI-generated video takes.
