Tutorial: Collaborative Brainstorming

Run a lightweight brainstorm in Mito—capture ideas as text nodes, cluster them by theme, and mark favorites.

What you'll build

  • A wall of idea notes
  • Themed clusters (grouped)
  • Simple votes via text markers

Prerequisites

  • Canvas quickstart (/canvas/quickstart)

Part 1: Capture ideas

  1. Create a new project and open the canvas.
  2. Use Add Text to jot short ideas (one per note). Keep lines brief and scannable.
  3. Spread notes across the canvas.

✅ Checkpoint

You have 15–30 notes representing ideas.

Part 2: Cluster by theme

  1. Skim notes and drag related ideas into clusters (e.g., “Acquisition”, “Retention”).
  2. Add a heading above each cluster with a Text node.
  3. Select each cluster and Group it so it moves as a unit.

Part 3: Mark favorites (simple voting)

  1. Add a Text node containing a marker (e.g., “★ 3”) next to an idea to indicate votes.
  2. Increment the number as people vote during review.

Tip: Use consistent markers (e.g., ★) across the board.

Facilitation tips

  • Timebox capture (5–10 minutes), then cluster (5 minutes), then discuss and mark favorites (5 minutes).
  • Keep notes concise; split long ideas into multiple notes for clarity.

🎉 Congratulations!

You ran a simple brainstorm with clusters and lightweight voting.

Next steps

  • Turn clusters into a presentation (/use-cases/design-presentation)
  • Track actions with a summary Text section
  • Organize projects for follow-up (/projects/guides/organizing-projects)
