Tutorial: Build a Moodboard

Create a moodboard from scratch: gather images, organize by theme, add labels, and group sections for easy movement.

What you'll build​

  • A two- or three-column moodboard of inspiration images
  • Themed clusters with labels
  • Grouped sections that move together

Prerequisites​

  • Getting Started quickstart (/getting-started/quickstart)
  • Canvas quickstart (/canvas/quickstart)
  • 8–12 images or shareable image URLs

Part 1: Create the project​

  1. From the Projects dashboard, click New Project.
  2. You’ll land on an empty canvas at your new project.

✅ Checkpoint​

You have a blank canvas open.

Part 2: Collect inspiration​

Option A — Drag-and-drop: Drag images from your desktop; drop them onto the canvas.

Option B — Paste URLs: Copy a shareable image URL; press Cmd/Ctrl+V on the canvas.

Troubleshooting​

Problem: An image didn’t appear after drop

  • Solution: Refresh the page and verify the file type/URL.

Part 3: Organize by theme​

  1. Create a column per theme (e.g., Color, Texture, Lighting).
  2. Resize the first image of a column to establish scale; match others visually using alignment guides.
  3. Maintain even spacing between items.

Tip: Use alignment tools for clean edges (/canvas/guides/organization/alignment-tools).

Part 4: Add labels and notes​

  1. Click Add Text to create a heading for each column.
  2. Add brief notes beneath key images (e.g., “Warm daylight tone”).

Part 5: Group sections​

  1. Select all items in a column (images + labels).
  2. Click Group. Repeat for each column so you can move sections without losing structure.

You can drag entire sections as single groups.
