Creating Projects
Create projects to start new creative work in Mito. You can start from scratch or use pre-built templates.
Before you start
Make sure you've selected the right workspace in the top header. Projects are created in the currently active workspace.
Create an empty project
- Click Projects in the sidebar
- Click New Project → Empty project
- Mito creates the project and opens the canvas
The project is automatically named (e.g., "Project 1"). You can rename it right away or later.
Start with a template
Templates provide pre-built content to jump-start your projects:
- Click Projects in the sidebar
- Click New Project → Start with a template
- Browse available templates
- Click Preview to explore or Duplicate to create
- Your new project opens with template content included
💡 Tip: Templates include proven layouts, asset organization, and scene structures. They're perfect for common video types like brand announcements or social content.

After creating
Once your project opens, you're in Pre-Production mode on the canvas. From here you can:
- Drag and drop images and files
- Add text notes and references
- Organize your assets
- Switch to Storyboard mode to plan scenes
Tips
- Create in the right workspace: Check the workspace selector before creating
- Name immediately: Give your project a clear name so teammates can find it
- Choose templates wisely: Use templates for common formats, start empty for unique concepts
- Start with references: Add your inspiration and reference materials first
