Using the Chat

Have a conversation with Mito Director to get creative assistance and guidance. Director remembers your conversation within each project, building context as you work.

Opening the chat

Click the AI Director tab at the bottom of the prompt bar on your canvas. The chat interface appears in the prompt bar area.

Chatting with Director

Sending messages

  1. Type your message in the input field
  2. Press Enter or click the send button
  3. Wait for Director's response

Keyboard shortcuts:

  • Enter — Send message
  • Shift + Enter — New line without sending

What you can ask

Director can help with:

  • Creative direction and ideas — "What style should I use for this commercial?"
  • Project suggestions — "How can I make this storyboard more dynamic?"
  • Workflow guidance — "What's the best way to organize this project?"
  • Prompt writing assistance — "Help me write a better prompt for this scene"
  • Asset feedback — "What do you think about this composition?"

Conversation history and context

Project-specific memory

Each project maintains its own conversation history:

  • Persistent across sessions — Conversation saves when you close and reopen
  • Project context — Director remembers what you're working on
  • Asset awareness — Director knows about assets you've discussed
  • Goal tracking — Builds understanding of your project goals

How context improves assistance

The longer you chat in a project, the better Director understands:

  • Your creative style preferences
  • Project requirements and constraints
  • Previous decisions and directions
  • Assets and elements you've created

Director in Storyboard

In Storyboard mode, Director also powers the video generation chat for each scene. When you open a scene's video generation dialog, you interact with Director to configure and generate video takes — choosing generation types, source frames, models, and prompts through a conversational interface.

See Generating videos for the storyboard video workflow, or Generating videos on canvas for generating videos from the prompt bar.

Example of context in action

First message:

You: "Help me with a video project"

Later in conversation:

You: "Should I add music?"
Director: "Given the documentary style we discussed earlier and the urban garden theme, ambient nature sounds might work better than traditional music..."

Context limitations

  • Per-project only — Conversations don't carry between projects
  • Canvas awareness — Director sees your current canvas when you chat
  • Session memory — Very long conversations may forget early details

Advanced chat features

Message management

  • Scroll history — Scroll up to see previous messages
  • Copy responses — Click copy button on Director's messages
  • Clear conversation — Trash icon to start fresh (loses all context)

File sharing in chat

Drag and drop files directly into the chat:

  • Images — Director analyzes and discusses visual content
  • Documents — Share scripts, briefs, or reference materials
  • Multiple files — Add several assets at once

Debug mode

If enabled by your team:

  • Debug panel — See Director's internal processing
  • Action tracking — View Director's tool usage and reasoning
  • Performance insights — Understand response generation

Chat best practices

Getting better responses

✅ Provide context:

  • "I'm working on a 30-second commercial for eco-friendly soap"
  • "This is for a tech startup's series A pitch deck"

✅ Be specific with questions:

  • Instead of: "How do I make this better?"
  • Try: "How can I make this product hero shot more dramatic?"

✅ Reference your canvas:

  • "What do you think of the layout in the top-left corner?"
  • "Should I add more assets to this moodboard?"

Building effective project context

Start conversations by sharing your goals:

"I'm creating a storyboard for a 2-minute explainer video
about renewable energy. The target audience is homeowners
aged 35-55. The tone should be optimistic but informative."

Ask follow-up questions:

"Based on what we discussed, what style would work best?"
"How should I organize these scenes to build momentum?"

Reference previous discussions:

"Remember the hero shot style we talked about earlier?
Should I apply that to this product lineup too?"

Troubleshooting

Director not responding

  • Check your internet connection
  • Try closing and reopening the chat drawer
  • Clear conversation and try a simpler question
  • Refresh the page if issues persist

Responses seem generic

  • Provide more context about your project
  • Reference specific canvas elements
  • Build context with follow-up questions
  • Share project goals and constraints

Conversation history lost

  • History is saved per-project—check you're in the right project
  • Clearing conversation removes all context permanently
  • Very old conversations may have limited detail retention

Files won't upload to chat

  • Ensure files are supported formats (images, text documents)
  • Try smaller file sizes
  • Drag directly onto the chat input area

Privacy and data

  • Project conversations are private to your team
  • Canvas context helps Director give relevant assistance
  • Chat history is stored securely and encrypted
  • Clear conversation permanently removes message history
