Recover Deleted Assets
Accidentally deleted an important asset? The trash feature lets you recover deleted assets even after closing and reopening your project.
Before You Start
- The trash is available for all projects
- Only assets deleted from the canvas appear in trash (not entire groups)
- Recovered assets appear individually—you'll need to regroup them manually
Access the Trash
- Open your project
- Click the Mito logo in the top-left corner (with the dropdown arrow)
- Select "Trash" from the menu
The trash dialog shows all deleted assets from your project.
Find Your Asset
Search by name
Type in the search box to find assets by:
- Asset annotation (if you added one)
- Text content (for text assets)
Filter by type
Click the filter icons to show only:
- Images (photos, illustrations)
- Videos (clips, animations)
- Text (notes, labels)
- Audio (music, voiceover)
- Documents (files, PDFs)
Restore an Asset
- Find the asset you want to recover
- Hover over the asset card—a restore button appears
- Click the restore button (circular arrow icon)
The asset returns to your canvas in its original position.
💡 Tip: The trash shows when each asset was deleted, helping you find recently removed items.
What Gets Recovered
When you restore an asset:
- ✅ Original content and any annotations
- ✅ Position where it was on the canvas
- ✅ Size and properties
- ❌ Group membership (you'll need to regroup manually)
Limitations
Groups don't recover as groups If you delete a group, each asset appears individually in trash. When restored, you'll need to group them again manually.
No undo for restores Once restored, use the canvas undo (Cmd/Ctrl+Z) if you change your mind.
Troubleshooting
Don't see your deleted asset?
- Check if you're in the right project—trash is per-project
- Try different filter types in case the asset type isn't what you expected
- Assets deleted before this feature was added won't appear in trash
Restore button not working?
- Make sure you have edit permissions for the project
- Try refreshing the page and accessing trash again
What's Next
Once you've recovered your assets:
- Group related assets to organize them
- Align assets for cleaner layouts
- Share your canvas with your team
