Understanding Layers
Layers control which assets appear in front of others when they overlap.
How layers work
- Assets added later appear on top by default
- You can change the order at any time
- Groups have their own internal layer order
Changing layer order
Select an asset, then:
- Bring to Front: Right-click → Bring to Front (or
Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + ]) - Send to Back: Right-click → Send to Back (or
Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + [) - Bring Forward: Move up one layer (Cmd/Ctrl + ])
- Send Backward: Move down one layer (Cmd/Ctrl + [)
When to use layers
- Place labels on top of images so they're readable
- Stack reference variations
- Create depth in your layout
Tips
- Keep text on top so it's always readable
- Use groups to manage complex layer arrangements
- The infinite canvas means you often don't need overlapping—spread things out
