Core Concepts
Learn how Mito organizes your work: workspaces contain projects, projects have a canvas with assets, and storyboards organize your video into scenes.
Workspaces
Workspaces are containers for your team and projects.
- Personal workspace: Created automatically when you sign up
- Team workspaces: Shared with collaborators for joint projects
- Organization: Use separate workspaces for different clients or initiatives
Projects
Projects are where your creative work lives. Each project contains:
- An infinite canvas for organizing assets
- A storyboard for planning your video
- A production timeline for final editing
Create projects from the Projects dashboard and organize them with clear names so your team can find work quickly.
Canvas
The canvas is your infinite workspace for visual organization.
Assets
Assets are the building blocks on your canvas:
| Asset type | Description |
|---|---|
| Images | Visual references, mood boards, concept art |
| Text | Notes, descriptions, narratives |
| Groups | Collections of assets that move together |
| Placeholders | Slots for AI-generated content |
Working with assets
- Add assets: Drag and drop files, paste URLs, or use the toolbar
- Arrange freely: Position assets anywhere on the infinite canvas
- Resize and rotate: Use handles to adjust size and orientation
- Group together: Combine related assets to move them as one unit
- Layer order: Bring elements forward or send them back
Scenes
Scenes are the building blocks of your storyboard. Each scene represents one shot in your video.
A scene contains:
| Element | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Duration | How long the shot lasts (in seconds) |
| Narrative | Dialogue, voiceover, or description of what happens |
| Visual description | What the shot should look like |
| Reference images | Visual references for the AI |
| Video takes | AI-generated video variations |
Takes
Takes are video variations generated by AI for a scene. When you generate video for a scene:
- Mito creates multiple takes with different interpretations
- You can preview, compare, and select the best one
- Regenerate if you want different results
Mito Director
Director is your AI assistant for creative work. Use Director to:
- Generate images and videos on the canvas using the prompt bar at the bottom of your workspace
- Generate video takes for storyboard scenes through the AI Director chat
- Get creative suggestions and prompt writing help through the chat drawer
- Break down scripts into structured storyboard scenes
The prompt bar supports model selection, aspect ratios, resolution, @ asset references, /tools for camera and lighting presets, and prompt enhancement. Director understands your project context—your brief, references, and creative direction—to generate relevant content.
Collaboration
Mito is built for teamwork:
- Real-time editing: Multiple people can work on the same project
- Live cursors: See where your teammates are working
- Threads: Leave comments and feedback on specific assets
- Shared context: Everyone sees the same canvas and storyboard
