Export Your Video

Export creates a final MP4 video file from your timeline that you can share, upload, or use anywhere.

Browser Compatibility

Video export requires the WebCodecs API, which is only supported in certain browsers:

✅ Supported browsers:

  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Opera

❌ Unsupported browsers:

  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Safari
  • Internet Explorer

If you're using an unsupported browser, you'll see a warning message in the Export dialog, and the Export button will be disabled. Switch to Chrome or Edge to export your videos.

💡 Why this limitation? Video export uses advanced browser technology called WebCodecs to process video efficiently. Firefox and Safari don't support this API yet.

Starting an Export

  1. Complete your edit — Ensure your timeline is ready
  2. Open the Export dialog — Click the Export button in the Production interface
  3. Configure settings — Choose quality, format, and filename

The export process converts your timeline into a single video file that plays anywhere.

Stages

Preparing
Mito analyzes your timeline, prepares video elements, and mixes audio tracks into a single audio stream.

Rendering
Each frame is generated from your timeline elements, applying all effects, transitions, and adjustments.

Encoding
Rendered frames are compressed into H.264 video format while maintaining quality.

Muxing
Video and audio streams are combined into the final MP4 container file.

Complete
Your video file is ready for download.

Progress Tracking

The export dialog shows:

  • Current stage — Which part of the process is active
  • Frame progress — Rendered frames vs. total frames
  • Percentage complete — Overall export progress

Export Duration

Export time depends on:

  • Timeline length — Longer videos take more time
  • Quality setting — Higher quality takes longer
  • Complexity — More effects and adjustments increase render time
  • Computer performance — Faster devices export faster

Typical times:

  • 1-minute video: 2-5 minutes

File Management

File location: Check your browser's download folder
File size: Varies by length and quality setting
File name: Matches what you specified in export settings

Export Tips

Before You Export

  • Preview your entire timeline — Check for issues before exporting
  • Listen to audio levels — Make sure music isn't too loud or soft
  • Check transitions — Verify they're smooth and properly timed
  • Review color corrections — Ensure adjustments look correct

Choosing Quality

For social media: Medium quality balances upload speed with good visuals
For client delivery: High quality shows your work at its best
For rough cuts: Low quality for quick feedback and reviews
For web embedding: Medium quality loads faster for viewers

Managing Large Files

High-quality exports can be large. If file size is a concern:

  • Use Medium or Low quality settings
  • Trim unnecessary content from your timeline
  • Split long videos into shorter segments

Troubleshooting

Export Button is Disabled

"Browser not supported" warning appears
Your browser doesn't support video export. Switch to Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge and try again.

Other causes:

  • Empty timeline — Add content to your timeline
  • Invalid filename — Check filename requirements above
  • Export already in progress — Wait for current export to finish

Export Fails to Start

Check timeline duration: Your timeline must have content and duration
Close other tabs: Free up system resources for export processing

Export Stops or Crashes

Reduce timeline complexity: Too many effects can overwhelm the system
Lower quality setting: Try Medium or Low quality
Clear browser cache: Refresh and try again
Restart browser: Close all tabs and reopen Mito

File Won't Play

Check file completion: Make sure export reached 100% before downloading
Try different player: Test with VLC, QuickTime, or another video player
Check file size: Incomplete exports may have small file sizes

Export Takes Too Long

Normal processing time: Video export is computationally intensive
Reduce effects: Fewer adjustments and transitions export faster
Close applications: Free up CPU and memory resources
Consider shorter segments: Export in parts if timeline is very long

Browser Requirements

Video export requires:

  • Supported browser — Chrome, Edge, or Opera
  • WebCodecs API — Automatically available in supported browsers
  • Sufficient memory — At least 4GB RAM recommended
  • Hardware acceleration — Enabled in browser settings for best performance

Using Firefox or Safari? These browsers don't support video export yet. Use Chrome or Edge instead.
